How to guard against burglars?

Professional burglars seldom enter a house which they believe to occupied. They look for signs of milk bottles, stuffed mailboxes, delivered newspapers, a lonesome car, dark houses with lighted entrance, or with a single living room light, open garage door, etc.

When leaving for an evening, leave some lights ON, perhaps a radio playing. When leaving for an extended period, have mail and other deliveries, newspaper etc held or suspended. Have your phone disconnected, so that on-the-spot telephone check to find out if you are at home, can’t be made. Avoid newspaper publicity on your projected vacation.
If you are only the adult male member of the house and if you have to go out and you are not returning the same night or for a couple of nights or more, contrive to tell your people at home in a domestic conversational way in the hearing of your neighbours and other that you are retuning the same afternoon or evening.
